A treatment involving the application of pressure to certain areas of the feet which are mapped to specific organs and systems within the body, leading to an improvement in general health and overall well-being. About the Treatment
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology involves the therapist using their hands to apply pressure and compression to specific areas of the feet. These areas correspond to regions of the body via the nervous system, and the therapist will use their knowledge of the reflexology map to guide where they apply the pressure. By doing this, the therapist can detect imbalances and blockages of energy within the body and will send signals to these areas in order to relieve tension. Therefore, although only the feet (and occasionally the hands also) are being massaged, the therapist will in fact be addressing your entire body.
Reflexology has been used for thousands of years and dates back to Ancient Egypt and China. It is based on the principle that when the body is out of sync, ailments result. Therefore, it works to rebalance the body and improve overall well-being and health.
Why choose Reflexology?
Reflexology is recommended for those who are looking for aid with sleep disorders such as insomnia, or require targeted relief of pain. It is also beneficial for general feelings of stress and anxiety if you do not require it for a specific ailment. However, do note that reflexology is not diagnostic or a medical treatment. It should not be chosen if you have any foot conditions such as any open wounds or athletes foot.
Main benefits
Reduces stress
Enhances overall well-being and mood
Has been shown to aid in the relief of specific ailments such as back pain, sports injuries, arthritis, tension headaches, stress, insomnia, IBS
What to expect…
Before
The reflexology treatment will be tailored to your specific needs and so the therapist will initially consult you about any current medical problems and learn about what you expect to gain from the treatment.
Shoes and socks will need to be removed and you will then need to place yourself on the massage table (with assistance from the therapist if required).
During
The feeling during this treatment will vary between people due to varying sensitivities in the feet. Do not hesitate if you have ticklish feet, as the firm pressure used will not lead to this sensation. Pressure will applied mainly by the thumb but also the fingers. During this treatment, tenderness may be felt in areas of the body which are out of balance. However, no pain should be endured and in the case of feeling any pain during the treatment, please let the therapist know straight away.
After
After the treatment you will feel relaxed and even warm. We advise to drink plenty of water in order to aid removal of toxins that will have been released and to rehydrate the body. Alcohol should also be avoided. Following the massage, you should continue to relax and if feeling sore, a hot bath is highly recommended.
Please note: All our therapists can perform the summer massage. Your summer massage can be combined with all massage treatments so simply choose your massage
type and leave an additional comment "summer massage" on the booking confirmation page.
